St. Charles County Front Door and Porch

This home layout was turned sideways when it was built because of the location, which put the real front door on the side of the house where it was not visible. The back door and deck, however, could be seen and so was often used instead by anyone coming to the house.  When the owners had their siding replaced, they decided to also change the main entry to the home.

We cut of the back-deck-that-was-in-the-front to get it out of the way.

Then while the siding contractors did their work, we installed a custom-order front door with side lights in place of the patio-style french doors. The previous door frames were not as tall as usual, so we had to modify pieces so that they would fit.

When the other work on the house was finished, the homeowner had a retaining wall constructed by a friend and then had a patio and walkway installed.

Then we came back and extended the deck to be new front porch steps.  We built new replacement railings to match the ones which had not been removed in the back.

It was an amazing transformation and now the front is their main entry.
